What to expect?
Hands-on AI Image generation for creative professionals with critical background and context. You will use Stable Diffusion XL, Invoke (invoke.com). and get access to the software for the duration of the workshop.
In this workshop we'll explore generative AI with a critical take. We'll be checking out three key areas:
- Background (History, How AI works, Infrastructure, Issues, Alignment)
- Practice (Commercial vs. Open Source, Prompt Engineering, Weights, Seeds, Techniques, Use Cases)
- Meta Practice (Content vs. Style, Aesthetic Bias, Cultural Bias, Censorship, Prohibited Content)
As AI increasingly shapes our work processes, it's essential to critically examine its effects on our industry and ourselves – and explore practical ways of using AI in our professional creative workflows.
We'll delve into AI-driven image generation and manipulation, considering both benefits and limitations. To ensure transparency and control, we'll be using open-source tools that allow us to retain full ownership and agency over our creative work.

This workshop is designed for creative professionals who want to keep up in terms of AI adoption while maintaining their artistic integrity and acquire the background and context necessary to avoid being swept up by the hype. Through discussions and hands-on exercises you'll learn how to:
- Use Gen AI as a practical tool for amplifying your creativity, rather than replacing it
- Look beyond the hype and critically evaluate the biases and limitations of AI-generated content
- Define your role as a creative amidst an increasingly automated workflow
- Get hands-on experience with AI image generation
